Buyer’s Guide: Extended Camera Warranties (2004)

In March 2004, Popular Photography magazine published an article for consumers buying extended warranties. Jason Schneider made some really great points and advice for the buyer. Jason stated that two great places to purchase our contract are B&H Photo and Adorama. Since the article was written B&H no longer carries our service contracts as they now sell their own house brand. Below is a small snippet from the article. I bought a $400 digital ca0304_warranties_2_Fmera 13 months ago, and then it broke. The camera company said it was an internal circuitry problem, but since it was three weeks out of warranty, it would cost $167 to fix. Would an extended warranty have really protected me?”It’s a question we’re often asked. And these days, the answer is—in most cases—yes. But before you buy an extended warranty for your camera, let’s take a look at some other questions you might have.0304_warranties_1_F

Buying Service Contracts & Warranties (Best Buy, B&H, Circuit City, etc)

Today I would like to talk about big box stores and warranties. Many consumers do not realize the advantages of buying a Mack Service Contract over a house brand. Well, today you will learn all about it. With over 70 years in the industry, we have been in business with an average of 40 years longer than most big box stores. We are the largest independently owned repair facility with over 20 on site factory trained technicians.

The average big box store will sell you a warranty which is a replacement warranty. This means they do not try to fix your product even if you have sentimental value with it. In most cases they will simply dispose of the product and send you a check for you to purchase a new one.

If you went to Best Buy to purchase a DVD player the salesman will push their warranty with it. This warranty would have to be purchased at that time. You are not given any time to think about it or look at what else is on the market. If you do not purchase their warranty when you purchase the DVD player, then you are out of luck. Or are you? If you purchase the DVD player from Best Buy, Circuit City, B&H Photo & Video, or any other big box store you could always give a call, or take a drive over to one of or dealers close to you and purchase the Mack Camera service contract for that particular item. A nice advantage over other warranties on the market is that you can buy the product from one store and the warranty from another.

But wait…how long do I have? Well, you have 30 days to think about our service contract. No pressure, no fuss. Our price is low, service is great and there is no hassle.

So you buy the DVD player from PC Richards, our service contract from Calumet and after 1 year decide to give the DVD player to your son at school. What happens to the service contract? Easy, our service contracts are transferable. Unlike warranties from the big box stores, a simple phone call, $20 check mailed to us and the service contract can be switched to your son’s name. If the owner of the equipment passes away, we do not charge a transfer fee if it remains in the family.

What happens if you buy a brand new digital camera from a company on eBay? You will get emails after emails offering a SquareTrade warranty but are hesitant. Well, did you know that you can buy the a Mack Camera Service Contract on eBay purchases? It works the same way as buying from another store. Bring your proof of purchase to one of our dealers and they will sell you a Mack Camera Service Contract with no hassle and no fuss. As long as the place you purchase the product from is a major store or reputable business there would be no problems. And again, you have 30 days to decide.

In the long run, there are a lot of products on the market for you to choose from and a lot of warranty choices. B&H’s SageMax Protection Plan, SquareTrade’s eBay Warranty, N.E.W. Protection Plan, Best Buy Service Plan, Circuit City’s Advantage Plan & so many more. With so many options, do you really have options? Only the Mack Camera Service Contracts give you 30 days to choose, with no limit on where you can buy the product or service contract.
